R. Bellamy, “Zoea”

This new exhibition “Exuviae” begins on March 10th at Mount Dora Center for the Arts with artist, Russell Bellamy. Exuviae is a body of work that deals with the inherent vulnerability of life during times of change.  In order for many life forms to become stronger, self sufficient and powerful,  they must first shed their skin or exoskeleton. Bellamy states, “My work over the past two years has documented my personal observations and concerns about our society, as well as observations of communal behavior. The pieces deals with contradictions of form and material. Often taking on organic forms of plants and animals, created with synthetic materials such as rubbers and plastics.”

Russell Bellamy grew up in Lexington, Kentucky.  He studied art at Georgetown College and received his MFA from the University of Cincinnati.  He has exhibited his work throughout the United States as well as presenting in both France and New Zealand.   Russell resides in Leesburg Florida and is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Beacon College, the first college or university accredited to award bachelor’s degrees primarily to students with learning disabilities, ADHD and other learning differences.
